Gannon University President Antoine M. Garibaldi, Ph.D., has appointed William R. Edmondson as Gannon University’s new Vice President for Enrollment. The newly defined position reports directly to the President and oversees a staff of 48 in the areas of undergraduate and graduate admissions (domestic and international), financial aid, the registrar’s office, and new student services.
Since 2005, Edmondson has worked as a national consultant with Applied Policy Research, located in Minneapolis, Minn. In this position, he has worked with a client base of 20 different colleges and universities across the country each of the past four years.

From 1994-2005, Edmondson held several positions with the Cleveland Institute of Art in Cleveland, Ohio. From 2000-05, he served as the Institute’s vice president for enrollment and student affairs and was responsible for undergraduate and graduate admissions, financial aid, student life, housing, career services, registration, academic services, orientation, judicial affairs, student counseling, and international student services.
As vice president for enrollment and student affairs, Edmondson also oversaw more than 25 employees and a multi-million dollar budget.
Also with the Cleveland Institute of Art, Edmondson from 1996-2000 served as assistant vice president for enrollment management and student ombudsman, and from 1994-96 as director of financial aid, a position in which he was responsible for the administration of nearly $5 million in federal, state, institutional, and other financial aid.
“We are fortunate to have such a qualified and experienced individual fill this new position,” Dr. Garibaldi said. “His extensive background in directing the enrollment, financial aid, and student affairs offices in private and public universities will be a major asset in achieving Gannon’s enrollment and retention goals.”
“Dr. Garibaldi and the Board of Trustees have an ambitious plan for enrollment growth and I am looking forward to joining the team and using my more than 20 years of experience in higher education to meet that goal,” said Edmondson. Edmondson will assume his new duties on Jan. 25, 2010.
Prior to joining the Cleveland Institute of Art, Edmondson served as the director of financial aid for Notre Dame College of Ohio, located in Cleveland, from 1992-94. In that position he administered $2.5 million in federal, state, institutional, and other financial aid.
And, from 1989-92, Edmondson was a financial aid officer at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
Edmondson’s primary focus with Applied Policy Research (APR) has been working with schools to help them benefit from the company’s proprietary Net Tuition Revenue Management System, which uses merit-based and need-based aid to optimize an institution’s net tuition revenue. In addition, Edmondson has worked with colleges and universities to maximize their results through APR’s Inquiry Analysis and Retention Analysis services.
Edmondson earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace management from Kent State University in 1989 and a Master of Public Administration degree in 1992. He and his wife, Lori, have two children: Jessica, 14, and Jeffrey (“Trip”), 12.
