The University of Pittsburgh, one of the nation’s top public research universities, seeks a chief enrollment officer of the highest caliber to lead the University’s enrollment efforts during an ambitious time in its history. This individual will provide strategic direction to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid and bring market expertise and insight to university-wide enrollment discussions and decisions.

Over the past decade, Pitt’s profile and prominence as a world-class public research university have grown notably, and the undergraduate population has increased in numbers and talent. The chief enrollment officer reports to the provost and is responsible for directing a staff of 74 in the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. Recognizing that the interplay among institutional reputation, market demand, economic diversity, equity, academic quality, and other factors is highly complex and challenging, the chief enrollment officer will be expected to guide institution-wide conversations and plans that encompass these important considerations.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Because the chief enrollment officer will be a leader in enrollment matters on campus as well as regionally and nationally, the University of Pittsburgh is interested in candidates with the following qualifications and characteristics:

  • Strong record of success in enrollment leadership, marketing, and management within a complex, ambitious, and diverse institution.
  • Proven strength in developing out-of-state and international recruitment markets.
  • Experience with and interest in using data to guide decision-making and measure results, including the strategic use of need- and merit-based student financial aid.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and mentor staff, lead change, manage budgets, and invest resources wisely.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to take calculated risks, to innovate, and to take advantage of opportunities.
  • Highly developed diplomacy and communications skills and a spirit of openness and approachability.
