The Morehead-Cain Foundation, home of the first merit scholarship program in the United States, seeks a respected college admissions professional to lead its scholar recruitment and selection efforts.

The Morehead-Cain Scholars Program: The Morehead-Cain is a four-year merit scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Established in 1945 and inspired by the Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford University, the Morehead-Cain covers all expenses for four years of undergraduate study at Carolina for sixty to sixty-five new students annually. The program also features four fully funded distinctive summer opportunities in outdoor leadership; public service in the U.S. and abroad; research in settings around the world; and experience in private enterprise. The Position: The Director of Scholar Selection plans and executes the selection process for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Program. The Director develops promotional materials, communicates with secondary school counselors, trains and manages assessment committees, coordinates candidate interviews, and manages the recruitment process. Throughout the selection year, the Director monitors the needs of and communicates with Morehead-Cain candidates and their families, high school personnel, seasonal readers, alumni, faculty, and administrators. In addition to maintaining the excellence of the Morehead-Cain selection process, the Director will find new ways to improve the process and innovate when appropriate. The Director of Scholar Selection reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the entire staff.

Qualifications:  The ideal candidate for this position will have a sophisticated understanding of highly selective admissions and superb written and oral communication skills, including tact and diplomacy.  Facility with technology and new media is expected, as is the ability to both collaborate with and lead a team. Candidates must be energetic, enthusiastic, and motivated self-starters with excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills. A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred. Candidates must have a minimum of four years of experience in college admissions. The ability to travel is essential.
